Yes, he told that after his accident in Japan. He's quite tired of WRC. You need so much money to compete, and still you don't get much in return, especially not insurance-wise. Pivato's insurance doesn't cover the accident in Japan, because Ford only gave them insurance for Europe or something.

It's good to hear Pivato's surgery and treatment is going well.
As for Duval, is the IRC not going to Scotland soon? As a UK based fan I wouldn't mind a trip to Scotland to see in in a S2000 Fabia!

That Proton is quite a good looking little car in person. It looks the business for sure.
The IRC is looking good for 2009. I will definitely be paying attention to it. Maybe we need to dedicate a new board to it.

is the IRC not going to Scotland soon? That is a possibility, yes: rallybuzz.stagetimes.com/irc-calendar-2009-include-brazil-scotland/Maybe we need to dedicate a new board to it. Good idea! There are already a few people following the IRC closely on the forums here. So I think we'll get plenty of information about rallies to come, what drivers are up to and so on.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea Viv. I'd certainly like to follow the IRC a little more next season and a dedicated board sounds good.
It'll help those of us not too clued up on it get answers quicker etc.

I think there will be a lot of action happening in IRC next season, so a dedicated board sounds like a good idea. It's a shame that the RS site is down, as it would have been good to post news articles as well. I recall that Mitch was looking at writing news articles for the American Rally Championship and the IRC for 2009.
Anyway, the proposed IRC calendar for next year:
21-24.1 Rallye de Monte-Carlo 5-7.3 Rally Internacional de Curitiba - Brazil 3-4.4 Safari Rally 7-9.5 SATA Rally Açores - Portugal 18-20.6 Belgium Ypres Westhoek Rally 9-11.7 Rally Russia 7-9.8 Rali Vinho da Madeira 28-30.8 Barum Rally Zlin - Czech 10-12.9 Rally Principe de Asturias – N.Spain 24-26.9 Rallye Sanremo 22-24.10 Rally Japan 19-21.11 RAC MSA Rally of Scotland
I would imagine that the proposed/leaked calendar won't change much between now and 2009, but having two Portugal based rounds is a bit odd, the Acores and Madeira.

What about cross-overs? What do you think of Troy Corser and Valentino Rossi jumping from 2 wheels to 4 wheels? Rossi, unlike Corser, hints at a future as WRC driver... And could 2009 be the last season for Loeb? Would 2010 open with Loeb in F1? Flip

Loeb has stated that he is uninterested in the S2000 rules that will come in (2010?) and says that they are considerably unspectacular compared to the current WRC cars. But he won't get into F1 so soon.

I've said before Loeb will retire when S2000 comes into effect, there's not much point learning a new style of driving and car after what he's already achieved - could result in egg in face! Although he would no doubt still sweep the board - we said he'd struggle with mechanical diffs!

Everybody will have to adapt to S2000. But let's not forget the current S2000 cars are not completely representative for those that will roll out in 2009/2010. You'll need to add a turbo and several other things to come to the S2000+ formula. And some more news of Patrick Pivato: Duval could see Pivato for the first time after his arrival from Japan, and took the liberty to give him a laptop for a pass-time. Patrick will soon receive a cheque from the fund raise started after his accident. A new website has also been opened for Patrick. It can be found on www.pivato.fr. Yet again, great to see the thumbs up.

I have seen more and more press releases associating Marcus Gronholm with SWRT for 2009, even on WRC news page it has appeared. Also there are reports that 2009 is the last season for Loed, because he got interested in F1. I think that at 34 for F1 is "old", but hey, one never knows. I never liked F1, because the laps are always the same and there is very little variety. NASCAR is the worst, I've been in the US for16 yrs and I still can not find the appeal of diving in a circle always turning to the left. At any rate, I think that Marcus would actually help the Scoobies. I also hope that Adapta will have the Impreza 2008 models in the 09 season. Is there any other driver out there that could have an "immediate" positive reation for the Scoobies other than Marcus? Aava. probably? Something that I realized just recently, the 08 season saw the introduction of the new Scoobie and the SX4, but if I am correct, the Suzuki team learnt faster, than the Scoobies, about it's car, thus achieved a faster improvement. Am I wrong in this observation? Flip

This is the text from Gronholm's website:
Offers for season 2009
Appreciated British Autosport magazine has told that Grönholm has received offers for season 2009 World Rally Championship series. Grönholm admits that the news are correct.
- No smoke without fire. It's nice that people remember me and that I'm not forgotten. However there are still lots to go from enquiries into serious negotiations. Even if I would be interested in rallying WRC 2009 I haven't made any plans for it, Grönholm told.
Returning for WRC is not an impossible idea for Grönholm.
- My family has got used to the fact that I'm home. On the other hand there are only 12 WRC events in season 2009. Let's just wait and see how things goes, Grönholm shared his feelings.

It will be interesting to see whether he takes up the offer or not. I believe that SWRT want him to sign up for all the WRC rounds next season (12), rather than say, a couple that Gronholm wants to do. According to wrc.com, SWRT have given Marcus until Christmas to make his decision.
So keep a close eye on the news sites on the 18th and 19th of December at the latest. We should know what Marcus is intending to do by this time.
