I'm not that good at writing good articles, but I'll give it a shot anyway ;D
**Preview**
Well, as you all know I'm going to the Ypres Westhoek Rally, the Belgian outing for the European Rally Championship. The entry list looks promising! We have some famous foreign (non-Belgian) drivers like G. Basso (Fiat Punto S2000 !), Michal Solowow (Renault Clio S1600), Urmo Aava (!) (Suzuki Swift S1600), Martin Prokop (!) (Citroën C2 S1600), Umberto Scandola (Fiat Punto S2000), Peter Bijvelds (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII), Enrique Garcia Ojeda (Peugeot 206 S1600), Jan de Winkel (Renault Clio S1600, a fluorecent one ;D) and many others.
For the Belgians, we've got many of the national heroes:
Freddy Loix (Citroën C2 S1600), Bernd Casier (Renault Clio S1600), Kris Princen (last year's winner) (Renault Clio S1600), Larry Cols (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX !), Patrick Snijers (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX), Bob Colsoul (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX -> many Evo IX's in Ypres ) and also, many others.
In the historics class, the most important are: Marco Bianchini (Lancia Stratos HF !), Jean-Marie Dedecker, co-pilot for Stephen Vankemmel in the Opel Ascona A. (He's got a politician role in Belgium, doesn't rally intrest me..) And also Bart Maes (he's got the same name as I do ) with his Porsche 911.
One driver has given a forfait, others still need to be approved. They are: Michal Kosciuszko (Suzuki Swift S1600) (only official forfait), Jasper Van Den Heuvel (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO), Xavier Bouche (Renault Clio S1600) and Peter Egerton (Opel Corsa S1600). To be approved that is. I do hope that the 3 non-approved forfaits are just rumours. Bouche is a national rally hero, Van Den Heuvel from the Netherlands is also a 'big guy' and Egerton, well never heard of him, but I've never seen a Opel Corsa S1600, so that would be nice ;D)
But we've already had some bad news: the shakedown for the historic cars should've been done yesterday evening. Though the police went around giving papers which had to say:
Due to an internal misunderstanding, the "Checklist for Medical Discipline" has not been correctly filled in and transmitted to the Medical Urgency Rescue Service in Bruges. For this reason, the Mayor of Ypres, could not authorize the shakedown in Boezinge.

An administration issue went wrong and so they hadn't receive the permission to start the shakedown.
I'm currently eagerly waiting for news, if the shakedown for the ERC cars takes place today and if the rally itself isn't cancelled.
Though on the forum of the website we can read many times that there will be no trouble for them today, and that they are going in some sort of protest to Bruges, and won't leave until they get their written permission.
I couldn't believe this yesterday... How can they possibly forget to send in this paper...
Whatever news I receive I'll let you know!
What am I going to do at the Ypres Rally:
I'm going to do 2 days of Time Control In on 2 different stages (1 stage per day): SS Langemark and SS Krombeke / Vleteren
My 1 year older second cousin is also going (I'm actually going with them, each year I'm invited to join them -thank you guys ) and he will take a videocamera with him. So: "this is Bart reporting live from the Belgium Ypres Westhoek Rally.." ;D
(Well I don't know if that's really going to happen, I need to convince the owner of the camera, and also need time for it -> hard work as a Marshall)
Let's hope we get some good news tomorrowmorning of this evening.
Until the next report!
