I think people really need to get the message here. This isn't really about the two soldiers, that has been proved with the bombing of the only remaining bridge out of Beirut. I'm not saying go all anti-this and anti-that but please, please help raise awareness and participate in things like charity events because you wouldn't like it if those people were any of your family. Thanks.

This whole Middle-East crisis hasn't been reported particularly well in Australia because the commercial TV channels' journalists are hopeless. That's reflected in people's ignorance towards the issues of Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and Iran. If you want to donate, I highly recommend Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders). www.msf.org/

At the start of the war, Hizbollah were putting their rocket installations right in the middle of civilian districts. This way Israël started shooting these civil targets. Now they just went insane I think, and keep shooting at the civilians. The U.N. was threatening to use there military peace force or something, but as far as I know, you can't win against Israël. Not even America or the U.N. They have the best secret agencies all over the world (they infiltrated the Pentagon once to show America what they can do... They didn't do anything wrong there though), they have a massive arsenal of weapons, and I think they even have nuclear warheads. There army is trained the most intense of the world (brainwashed?). Lebanon didn't have a chance from the start. Israël had the ongoing disputes with Palestina, and now they work off their hate on Lebanon. Probably from the thought of the Holy War etc. I hate to say it, but I think we're powerless here... I signed the petition with all my heart, but I don't think it will help...

The whole thing's a big mess. Where will it end? Israel certainly isn't making any friends out of this little escapade. It basically goes all the way back to the logic of putting a Jewish settlement in the middle of an Arabic and Muslim region on a plot of land considered to be holy by all sides. I guess the hope that they would sort it out without trying to blow each other off the map was a bit optimistic.
So after Israel have their fun and blow up some more of Lebanon and claim a victory against Hezbollah, they'll head home. (That's probably the best-case scenario at this point.) Then what? Everyone lives happily ever after? Hmmm, nope. Unfortunately thousands of Lebanese will wonder why their houses were blown appart. Hezbollah will rebuild with new recruits.
And the alternative? Build houses with strong enough roofs to withstand the odd rocket lobbing in every few days?
I haven't heard ONE good alternative for what Israel is doing... although it would be nice if they abided by international law and didn't use cluster bombs. They're not exactly surgical precision weapons.
WARNING: And lastly (with my moderator hat on), this is a rally forum. We have this section to discuss these kind of current events. But if it turns sour, there will be no hesitation in closing it. So please feel free to discuss and express your views but be aware this is a sensitive topic. Racist or offensive remarks will not be tolerated (as usual). I know everyone here will use the topic appropriately but this is just a warning as it's a danger topic for any forum.

Viv, Curt has already warned me about it.
I will try to explain why Israel is so pissed.
Israel has been fighting with the Palestinians for the past 200 years. Yes, that is 2 centuries and counting. In 1972, Israel thought Lebanon was just a jump-and-claim land and did what it had been doing to the Palestinians. But once again G2/Pentagon/CIA intelligence was faulty just as it had been when Iraq tried to claim Iran - and Israel were humiliated by this seemingly small "militia" they call Hizbollah. Forward flash to today, and it's easy to see why Israel is burning Lebanese children alive. They've been wounded and when you're wounded you're angry - and they have the means to carry forward their anger.
Israel have the best intelligence in the world. The Best. Clearly America's is not. Remember when they trained the Afghanis to fight the Russians a few years ago? Oh how that backfired. Today you have the Taliban. Then back in the 80s within 48hrs the Iranian intelligence had uncovered a plot to kill their reverend leader Ayatullah Khomeini. However Israeli intelligence has appearently never failed, which is why the US is so eager to do their bidding and send them phosphorus to use in Lebanon. So there we go. Now we're not only talking about an army that is well equipt, they're also very well aware. Oh dear.
Then we come to the soldiers. The soldiers are sharp. Very sharp. They are not the "I don't care if I die in battle, I've been helping my country" type of people Hezbullah and the Iraqis are. Oh no. They are more the "OK, the better we do this the more chance of survival, so that means we give it out all. Period." type of soldiers. When you have those kind of soldiers, you have tactics. When you have tactics, it turns deadly. Just the day before they captured some Hizbollah leaders in a hospital, a swift covert opts mission with flashbangs, silenced handguns and broken locks. You can find it on BBC Video. Not the people you want to mess with.
Basically what Israel is actually doing is creating a diversion. Drawing international criticism and saying the same things so that it goes round in a circle much like GWB's arse, while backstage something completely different is happening. All silent and peaceful.
I can't live with a nation so evily based on domination. And I hope to god you can't either.
