Targa Tasmania started today (the 25th) and got off to the usual start . After being waved away from the city of Launceston they moved to the streets of George Town for Stage 0. A prologue to establish the running order. This years Targa is said to be the best seen ever as over 10 crews have a chance of winning. Targa stalwwart and seven time champ Jim Richards starts as favourite in his RWD Porsche 911 GT2 after withdrawing his 4WD Porsche a couple of weeks ago. Defending champ Jason White (now in a Lamborghini Gallardo), Greg Garwood (Porsche 911 Turbo), Tony Quinn (Porsche ...), aussie rally ace Dean Herridge (factory Subaru Impreza spec C), Warwick Rooklyn (factory Lancer Evo 9) and legendary circuit racer Peter Brock (Daytona COupe replica) are all in the running for the win.
Todays stage was a quit affair with nearly all the cars running without problems. David Catchpole having the only major drama at the back of the field when he had trouble with his Lancer Evo 4. The big news of the day was 2005 runner up and dangerman Greg Garwood. He got airborne and hit a fence and damaged a tyre and his radiator. Running second last he mgiht have been the cause for defending champs Jason and John White for having a slow time. Garwood will continue tomorrow and will not have to take a tyre penalty(in Targa, to change a tyre costs you 2 mins in penalties)
