Noticed some big names in the field like Henri Pescarolo, Freddy Loix and Carlos Sainz. I've watched Dakar since Dakar 2004 and I absolutely love it, glad to see I'll have Dakar and A1GP to keep me entertained this motorsport off-season

I love watching the Dakar. Coming up on Eurosport (tv channel) is a sort of reality tv competition with wannabe Dakar drivers, and the winner gets a drive in it.
Also this year is a speed limit for the bikes, as too many deaths have occured recently, normally at least one a year.
Also in the bike category, Charlie Boorman, who starred with Ewan McGregor in a Sky tv series where they travelled the world on a bike together is also competing.
Bring it on...I love January

noticed their is a Richard Hammond on the car list - could it be Top Gears Hammond or not As strange as it sounds I think it might be! It says he will be driving a Bowler Wildcat, which I remember Hammond liking very much. I remember him saying whilst driving it "I am a driving GOD!" ;D

With the withdraw of Nissan we have lost a lot of people. Ari Vatenen isn't there, as well as Colin McRae. Juha Kankkunen isn't returning it looks like (unless I missed him). Miki Biason didn't contest 2005 so we won't see him for a while.
My tip is 1. Luc Alphand - Mitsubishi 2. Bruno Saby - VW 3. Stephane Peterhansel- Mitsubishi 4. Jutta Kleinschmidt - VW 5. Giniel de Villiers - VW 6. Hiroshi Masuoka - Mitsubishi 7. Robby Gordon - Hummer 8. Carlos Sousa - Nissan 9. Guerlain Chicherit - BMW 10. Carlos Sainz - VW
As for the bikes: ANDY CALDECOTT

Yeah Gordon will race with the H3 Hummer and Hummer is sponsoring them up.One of the things why Hummer is there the brand want to show up that the new Hummer is great car by all things and will go true of everything. My opinion is that them will fail quite heavily by the results but lets see. An H1 would have been a best choice...
What comes to the race I love I really think that it will be really great once again. So many old rally names once again and Biasion is at the entry list at the same Iveco team with Alen once again. I think that Mitsubishi will be hard to beat once again and team to watch will be Nissan Desseude team with old Nissan machines. Many thinks its will be Mitsubishi vs Volkswagen but I wish no one dont count out my fav team,Schlesser aventures. Yes them have only the 2wd cars but in the rally raid cup Jean-Louis has even beat them in some stages and was close to even won a one raid event.
I am trying to get comments to Schlesser for the forum before Dakar but I cant guarantee that it will come to happen but looks promising.
oh and what comes to the bikes I think once again Gauloises KTM will be the team to beat.

God the Hummer is a stinker of an automobile, hope Robby Gordon goes well in the rally though, he had an alright run last year before he had that massive roll in his VW.

Five DAF trucks have not been cleared to start the 2006 Dakar Rally because they did not have the proper vehicle documents
"By decision of the sporting officials, the five trucks of Dutch manufactor DAF have not been cleared to start the 28th edition of the Dakar. The crews concerned are: those of: Hans Bekx (502), Gerard De Rooy (n° 504), Jan De Rooy (n° 506), Marcel Van Vliet (n° 523) and Hugo Duisters (n° 529).
According to the officials technical report the competitors of these vehicles don't have the proper documents.
For these reasons, a jury of officials has decided after speaking to the competitors that based on a part of article 25.4 of the rule book as well as the whole of article 25P1 « every vehicle that is not in conformity can't be cleared to start the rally. (decision of the jury of sporting officials) ». Article 25P2 B must also be taken into consideration. This decision was announced to the competitors at 15h20 and they now have an hour to appeal.
