Ok, so we all heard about the penalties handed to drives and to the manufacturer. But do you think that the drivers should of been penalized or should only the manufacturer be penalized? In reality, the manufacturer was the one responsible of placing the bar in; and since they are accepting the ruling, it can be understood that they knew that those bars were illegal indeed. Did the drivers know about the bar? Should they be penalized for something that they didn't know? Or is the whole penalty, drivers + manufacturer, fair and reasonable?

Well, Citroën should be penalized, but the only way to do that is to penalize the drivers. They will cause the manufacturer to get less manufacturer points.
This is exactly the same situation as Ford had last (?) year with their back windows on the Focus being too thick.

This is exactly the same situation as Ford had last (?) year with their back windows on the Focus being too thick. They were too thin if I remember rightly. Probably some minute weight like 0.5 grams saved by reducing the thickness of the glass. Anyway, I suppose the line has to be drawn somewhere. Both the manufacturer and the driver has to be penalised. The driver because he has an unfair advantage (no matter how small that may be) and the manufacturer, so they and other manufacturers don't do it again. Bad news for Seb, because he obviously deserved to win the rally in what was a close and hard-fought contest. He is now five points behind Mikko instead of just one. The good news is that the title fight should now be a lot closer and a lot more exciting with only two rounds remaining. Loeb will almost definately win in Spain, but he must basically finish higher than Hirvonen in the remaining two rallies to win the title. Sordo and Ogier's contribution will be paramount to Loeb's success. If Loeb wins the remaining two rounds, but Hirvonen finishes second in both, Hirvonen will win the title by one point. I honestly thought this year was going to be dead set boring with only two manufacturers and basically Loeb romping to win after win. If Loeb can pull off this title win, it will be his best yet.

Only two more rounds?!! Where has this year gone?!
Loeb is in deep poo now with a margin of 5 points, 4 points is not so bad because of the points system (10-8)...

Also was Rautenbach penalised or not?

He would have been I guess, but he already retired anyway.

I reckon a 5 point deficit is perfect for Loeb. If things go to plan, Loeb and Sordo will be 1-2 in Spain. Then Loeb will be just 1 point behind and Mikko will be sweeping in GB. Unless Mikko decides to drop championship points to go behind Loeb... I wouldn't put that past Ford.
Will be a good finish to the season.

I don't know how bad road sweeping will be in GB, especially given it's more traditional time slot in winter. As we rally nuts know, first car on the road in wet conditions has a slight advantage as the gravel sinks into the mud allowing the tyres to grip. After the gravel is swept, it's just slippery mud that's left.
But as I said, it's only a small advantage, the dry weather gravel sweeping is far more disadvantageous. Should be a thrilling, flat out, drive to the finish.

I must admit that I was wrong. At the begining of the 2009 Rally season, I wasn't thrilled about the prospect of Loeb's winning sweep. I complained about it, certainly with my wife, and maybe a bit here on the board. So I stand corrected, this rally season turned out to be a very good one. We saw the creation of the Petter Solberg World Rally Team. We saw how an old Xsara could be pushed hard and put pressure on the newer models. We saw also some spectacular driving such as Villagra in Argentina, Loeb in Australia, Hirvonen in Finland. We also saw some unbelivable crashes as Latvala in Poland and in Portugal, Loeb in Greece. And there are much more things that happened in this season that have made the whole thing pretty freaken cool. The last two rallies will be a sure nail-biting finale. Loeb will need to push his machine really hard, especially in the GB rally. As Viv says, it is likely to see a 1 - 2 for the Citro's in Spain. Needless to say, I will be glued to my iMac listening WRC radio during these rallies (maybe I will have to take time off from work ;D LOL) Anyway, the Australia rally was very, very cool and I enjoyed every second of it, even with the disappointing post-race finale; and Sarah had some awesome pics of the rally on her facebook page. I hope Viv has some pics to share with us! Ciao, Flip

Apologies for my long abscene! Well as is always the case with rallies down under, never really got my head around when days were taking place etc. and ended up seeing no fotage from the event!
I have read about it thought and the drivers are more than happy to win as a team and I'm prettysure the team spirit will mean they won't mind losing as one either. It might be a bit harsh on Loeb etc. who pretty much just drive but it should be the whole team that takes a hit not just a singled out person in these cases!
