With the recent success of Danica Patrick driving for Rahal Letterman in the IRL, and the recent signing of Brit Katherine Legge for PKV Racing in the Champ Cars, do you think we will ever see a woman "competing", or challenging in F1?

I don't follow F1, but I'm sure there must be a lot of G-Force in driving that fast. I'm not certain women drivers would have as much endurance under those conditions.

I have wondered that for a while actually, all though I don't really follow F1 religously. I guess being a woman, from my point of view it would be great to have a girl mixing it with the best in F1. I have also wondered if MotoGP, my other favourite form of motorsport, will ever have a female star? I know there are plenty of women involved with the Bikes, but whether or not we'll see a lady at the pinnacle of it-I don't know! We can hope... I guess I do have to take into consideration what Curt mentioned-the massive G-Forces that are associated with F1 (and the bikes as well) and whether or not the female body would hold up against that. That would be an intersting topic for me to do some research on I think-hmmm...

Certainly Bernie Ecclestone would see the $$$ advantage to it. It would be interesting to see how a female would go against male drivers though. I remember Jenson Button made a rather sexist comment about female drivers entering F1 (JB is a w***er anyway ) and Katherine Legge (I think?) wrote in a column of hers "Button would probably win a Grand Prix if he stopped looking at the grid girl's boobs" ZING!

lol. If Natalie Barratt got her act together she sould have a drive in a WRCar. We have a up and coming gal in Australia. No its not Lita. Molly Taylor, daughter of 3 time co driving aus champions Coral and driver Michael who also writes in Motor Magazine whihc is a aussie fav!
She is a very fast girl and very young!

I think Natalie Barratt has had her chance in the JWRC and PWRC. She crashes too much.
Look out for Lorna Smith, two time BRC Ladies champion, and shes with a good team with Stobart.
About G Forces, I can't see a problem in F1 because Danica Patrick in IRL must suffer more than that at 220 mph going round an oval corner?

There is proof women drivers can do well in motorsport. Michele Mouton finished 2nd in the WRC in 1982 in the Audi Quattro: juwra.com/season_1982_points.html. For those who don't already know, she is also the one to start the 'Race Of Champions' which is held in December each year in France.

only real reason i've heard of Mouton is that the Stobart motorsport truck is named after her

You do have a point there CF; considering the shape of the track and the fact that those cars sit so low-she'd be exposed to some pretty wicked conditions. Maybe Danica harbors dreams of F1 glory down the track? She's only young so depending on her ambition-you never know.

I think it would be interesting to see more Women driver in Motorsport, it's not like football where people think the Men can put some rougher tackles than the women (after seeing some girls football I can say I don't agree with that!) in Motorsport the dangers are pretty equal for both men and women. More women seem to be coming through into motorsport now, do you think they should get seperate championships like in football or should they be intergrated into the current championships?

i think seperate championships are a bit of a waste of time - look at BRC last year 2 drivers in ladies cup

Yeah, and i think, depending on the women involved, alot would be annoyed at having seperate championships. I actually think it's a good idea from a 'begginer' type of aspect, and as they progress through the rank's maybe intergrate with the guys at 'intermediate' level-but I guess there are pro's and con's with that too. But, it's all about the numbers isn't it. Are there enough girls to do that with at a beginner level? Perhaps there are in some types of motorsport, but maybe not for this category.

To be fair to women in all forms of sport you need to have separate classes. That's is for equality purposes although that sounds stupid. If you mix all the men and women then there will be very few women in international sport. It's not for lack of opportunity either. There are some sports which women excell in, but they are few and far between.
I dont think it's sexist to say women are not as good as men at many sports because the evidence is everywhere. It's not sexist to say men are not as good as women at other activities like multitasking. It's just fact that there are differences between what each gender is capable of. Some people would argue that it's just because men are more exposed to sporting activities at a young age, but that view is ignoring a lot of basic knowledge of the human brain and body.
In a sport like motorsport which is dominated by money, I think it's realistic to see women at the top level. But without an advantage over the best male drivers and some luck, I dont think women would win many championships. That's not to say I'd be embarassed if I was beaten by a woman in a race... there are a lot of women who are better drivers than me... but a hell of a lot more men.
