Did anyone see the F1 farse yesterday? I don't usually watch F1 as I find it really boring, but this was just pathetic. There was just 6 cars on the track and spectators were throwing bottles at them. Apparently its something to do with Michelin, but I wasn't paying that much attention. Maybe now the fans will realise how much better the WRC is .

Formula 1 has been really interesting this season. It's a shame to see something like this happen. It is typical Formula 1 politics and lack of quick thinking leadership.
Michelin supplied tyres which were wrong for the track and they were dangerous. After Ralf Schumacher crashed into the wall at high speed, Michelin looked at the tyres of all the teams and made a statement that the tyres were unfit to race unless the speeds of the last two corners were reduced.
Ferrari and Jordan (on Bridgestone) said there's nothing wrong with our tyres, we're going to race. Because Jordan were going to race, Minardi also reluctatly entered their cars. Michelin teams offered to not score points and run the race if there was a chicane put between turns 12 and 13. This was a feasible thing to do as it is a wide section of track and good for a left-right-left chicane.
That offer was refused and the race went ahead with 6 cars. Ferrari, Jordan and Minardi.

I stayed up until 6am to watch the race. It was pretty disappointing. Michelin are to blame for not supplying tyres fit to race. And the others are to blame for not finding a good solution to give the fans a spectacle. A lot of the fans had travelled a long way to see the US GP. It's an event which is trying to raise the profile of F1 in the States. But this farse will turn a lot of fans away and will cost the organisers big bucks.

If I had paid the prices that were being asked for the US GP, I would be irrate.
Some folks would love to see a WRC race in North America (other than Mexico) but after this FIA/Michelin screw up I don't think we will ever see a F1 race or any other type FIA race here in the USA again.

michelin made a huge thingy up which could put it's future in F1 in doubt.
good to see the Jordan's and Minardi's in the points. Monteiro looked well happy with third

yeah it wasnt a race I expected but its totally Michelins fault if them cant do good tyres. Also some FIA proposals how them tried to sort the things out was quite good but anything wasnt ok to Michelin. Anyway what you can do if them cant make the tyres for F1!! I think an extra chicane wasnt a good idea as if I believe to FIA´s calculation, them calculations said that was there a chicane or not the speed would have been the same for end of the main straight.
Its still quite amazing that any other team than Toyota didnt had problems and example McLarens data said with tyres could be driven the full race. Some drivers thought that Toyotas tyre probs camed because them tried to get extra advantage by taking a tyre pressure down what means them get better grip. Anyway there can be many people who can be the one but I agree with all that its Michelin. It really isnt a Ferraris fault as them said its FIA who make the decisions not us. Also in some forums was said that its can be even possible that Michelins penalty is that all them contracts will be out and all teams even probably starting this year will drive the end of the season with Bridgestones but we will see.
Still many things suffered losses. F1 in USA, fans wants money back, betting offices wants their own part, users who used betting wants money back, sponsors wants a losses and so on. I think Michelin is going to lose a lot in marketing and also will lose the fight between only tyre suplier for F1 to 08 if Bridgestone dont go off before it.
Also the race meaned good to Minardi and Jordan who now gets more moneys than for years as them collect a lot of points! Also I see Ferrari back now in championship fights and its still 10 rounds to go!!

but really how difficult would it have been to put maybe a traffic cone chicane or something in then maybe slightly reduce the laps therefore the race would start later so that the drivers could get used to it

That was a ridiculous race, it should have been postponed, held off till a later date when Michelin had the right tyres with them, and the crowd been given free tickets to the rescheduled event. Either that or they should have hurried up and put up that chicane they were talking about, according to a few people involved with the race it wouldn't have been that hard or time-consuming to do. I agree that the American motorsports fans are going to have a lot of trouble having any faith in the FIA again after this fiasco.

It's a real shame, 'cos F1 has been hot this season. And I'm sure it will be back to form next round. It just can't get away from these incidents which always arise from team bosses and the FIA failing to come to sporting solutions for the gain of the drivers and fans and at the expense of team dominance.
And it wasn't just the Toyotas which had the problems. They inspected all the tyres and 11 cars had tyres which were about to fail.
It's strange that it happened here and hasn't even looked like happening anywhere else. Infact, Michelin has dominated the tyre war. I guess they'll pay a big price for this mishap.
