Was announced a fair while ago now but Codemasters have announced the sequel to DiRT, and after a joint decision by the McRae family and Codies the franchise will continue to bear Colin McRae's name. Here are some target screens (not actual screenshots from game): The game takes on an 'off road racing with an extreme sports' attitude, and thats what worries me. The pure essence of the CMR series is rallying, flat out racing against the clock, on a wide variety of terrains, in different countries around the world, some in famous WRC locations. The developers have turned the series upside down enough already with DiRT, introducing American buggy racing, Dakar-style trucks, and rallycross. IGN First LookI just hope it doesn't end up as some US-audienced tripe which no rally fan will feel honoured the McRae name.

Codemasters used to be awesome and racing names. Now they are just awful. The purpose of the CMR games was to bring rallying to the masses. Now it just please the masses - defying the point. ToCA Race Driver 1 - 3 were amazing - what the hell was GRiD? There was a a restart button for crying out loud! ToCA RD 3 was the last racing game I bought - I'm yet to come across another game since good enough to buy.
Hopefully Codies can create a decent F1 game with their new contract.

I totally agree Nick. For me, the last game I bought from them was Toca RD 3 too. They haven't really had a good title ever since.

I agree with both of you, however if the graphics will look as good as those screens and the physics have been overhauled, and there's a little more focus on the actual rallying and not the US-audienced crap then I'll be buying

Well I know the latest games of Codemasters all had smashing screenshots and/or trailers, but that the actual games were not even near those advertisements.

It will be hard to top Richard Burns Rally, it's a few years old but still remains the best rallying game in my opinion. I wish there was a franchise of RBR titles much like the CMR series - the company responsible for developing RBR has since disbanded I believe.

RBR continues to live on and evolve thanks to the gaming community. There are some great online competitions and plugins out there. Latest cars, new stages, etc.
CMR will struggle to match RBR, even after more than 5 years.
I love your tagline about Petter. It's been a long time.

Just saw an intro video. What rubbish! Guy gets out of bed, walks past a girl showering, kicks over some beer bottles....
This game has been solely made to appeal to the XGames crowd. That is not rallying. And we are letting this company decide the next F1 game!!

Codies lost the plot a long time ago. Appealing to the Need for Speed crowd is a sure way to alienate purists of the sport. Why is so hard to make a rally game with an improved V-rally career and great graphics, damage, etc. I am even ok with it not being a Burns style sim as not everyone wants that. McRae was never meant to be that. It was a nice balance in my opinion. Lord knows what they are going to do with the F1 game!

Lol, apparently passionately expressing my views about the game has earned me a slap on the wrist. It felt good to vent my frustrations. I used to have an account on the Codies forum and would regularly contribute ideas and discussion about CMR.
