Despite Toyota's financial withdrawal of support for Neal Bates' rally team, both he and team mate Simon Evans will start the opening round as privateers, and both will be driving Toyota Corolla S2000's.
Despite the recent financial turmoil, thirteen ARC entries is not a bad effort, especially with a number of high profile drivers that have got behind the sole tarmac round of the championship.
Along with the two Toyota drivers, APRC driver Dean Herridge will campaign a 08 Hatchback Impreza.
Eli Evans, second in the championship in 08 and the only driver to win a round/heat other than the Toyota's last year, has also entered in his WRX. Will be one of the favourites.
As will Brendan Reeves, 22 yo super star driving a 07 Impreza run by Les Walkden. Will be very quick in a capable car on the teams' home event, will definitely be on the podium, just a matter of which step.
Spencer Lowndes will again drive his Evo IX, while Glen Raymond will enter his Corolla NP. Both were quick on tarmac last year on their tarmac debuts, will be quicker again in 09.
Dual Targa Tasmania winner and seasoned rally driver Tony Sullens will drive a WRX. This bloke is very quick, has beaten Porsches, Lambos and other exotic machinery in a '97 WRX... rumours are he has a new, quicker WRX. Time will tell...
Victorian Rally Champ Justin Dowel will be there in his Evo IX, as will Tasmanian champ Craig Brooks, driving an ex. Subaru Rally Team Aus 05 Impreza Spec-C.
The entry list may be small, but it has some quality drivers and cars. As well as the ARC competitors, there will be some interesting battles going on between a wide variety of vehicles in the two other categories.
There are 15 entries in the Classic competiton. Classics are for cars pre-1982, including various Porsches, DeTomaso Pantera, Mazda rotaries, Ford and Holden V8's and Escorts.
In the Modern competiton, there are 21 entries. Cars include Porsche, three R35 GTRs, Evos and WRXs.
This is set to be a cracker of an opening round.
