talk about put the mozz on the matador... Carlos Sainz has crashed out of the Dakar!! (co-driver Michel Perin broke his shoulder and was evacuated after the car rolled) De Villiers now leads by seconds from Miller. Nani Roma appears to have struck mechanical problems which has allowed the Hummer of Robby Gordon to move up to third!!! All Change!!

Well, almost all top drivers are out of the race. Starts to get a bit dull.. I really dislike Gordon: he drives really dirty (driving others off the road, ...). I noticed this particularly in the Dakar 2007.

Some of the routes of the Dakar this year have been amazing. Today's stage was mental!

The route is stunning, but I'm not at all impressed by the organisation. Sainz drove in a ravine, breaking the shoulder of his co-pilot. Now it seems that this ravine of 4m deep, wasn't even in the roadbook!!!
The day before yesterday's stage has also been cancelled due to mist.. there was no mist to be seen on images..
Today's stage has been shortened, just like many other stages before. I think this is the 8th one already. It's unbelievable.
I think ASO seriously underestimated this rally!

Some of them has been really crazy. Just look the number of the withdrawns and youll see that it hasnt been an adventure and a great race no more, its more like a survival story. The stages in the dunes were cool except some of the guys were complaining about too big dunes and yeah, too soft sand. Them said it wasnt anything like in Africa. The route has been quite rocky this year but the stages been more proper rally roads. Thats the style of R.Gordon,yeah. He drives in the limits and try to take an every second out even if he needs to make crazy manouvers. For the other competitors that aint so cool but you guys should see how he drives the car in some of the corners,it looks awesome if you are there . Also some of you were wondering why VW´s might be quicker this year at the straight line. I quess it has to have something to do with soft sand+ the weight advantage VW´s are gaining compared to Open class vehicles like Hummer.

This is a long distance endurance race, not a 2.25 day rally.
Having new terrain makes the playing field even for every one.
Remember in a Rally Raid, the fastest is usually never the winner.
And with all Dakar's, most of the contestants are just happy to finish. It a personal victory.

It's pretty amazing that it was only a broken shoulder. Going bumper first into a dry river-bed... they are like concrete! Roma came so close to going in on top! Full marks to Carlos for getting the cameraman to flag him down.
