Thanks for your comments; I've linked to a slightly livelier version with a different logo, take a look and see if it's any better. I've added a few design elements to add some 'eye candy' around the text, and also put some links and a sub-head into the text to make it more realistic. Since it's primarily designed to be an article, I'm wary of making it difficult to read by over-use of images and backgrounds, but if it needs more 'interest', the next step is a subtle background, such as a single curved stripe, through the text, just to provide a little variety. I wouldn't recommend an animated background on any site; they detract too much from the usability. Again, comments and suggestions are more than welcome. Homepage v 2.1 (225kB)

V2.1 looks much better. The differences don't seem that much until you put the two screenshots together. The logo looks better but still seems to be missing something.

Its a good attempt but I don't think it will suit the new design. Thanks anyway.

G'day Jacob, I like what you've done with the latest version. I think the font is an improvement, maybe a pixel or two more line-height in the body text? The bar down the left is a winner. The new logo ">>>RALLYSTUFF" is good, but maybe not perfect yet. I like the colours. There could probably be a rally car somewhere on the banner. Under the RallyStuff logo maybe.
I like the design with the website and e-mail address but maybe the text could be 100% Unofficial and #1 for Rally. I like that text so it would be sad to lose it.
Maybe a fraction more whitespace between the news article and the news/poll area. The way the image is aligned in V2.1 is a winner I think.
The difference between unvisited link and visited link could be a little more subtle. Maybe a bit more space between the links at the top (news, teams, drivers, etc)? But all this is just tweaking. I think the layout is very good.
Nice work Jacob.

With getting a rally car in the banner. Maybe on the left hand side you could have a reasonably sized image of a rally car but very faint and highly filtered to suit the current background colour of the banner (a similar effect to the steering wheel on the right). Not sure it would work, but I feel it needs something. And I do tend to agree that the wheel could be a rally wheel. Or maybe a Motec dash or something else specifically rally.
In answer to Evo, it's probably best not to have a moving background. From a web development perspective, it distracts the user's eye so it's harder to read text. And it takes longer for the page to load.

No worries, they were just suggestions of mine. As for the logo, thanks for the comments, I wasn't planning all the colour actually, just something plain and white like Jacob's >>>RALLYSTUFF", and much smaller too, like his size, so it's looks good but not overdone. The miniature rally cars on the L's would go along with the name of the website, but I agree that it probably wouldn't go very well with the design. And of course, it all depends on Curt's liking. You're quite a gun on Paint I see Haven't actually touched that program since 12

Vivski - thanks for your suggestions, a lot of those were things I've been playing with; do you have a background in web design? You sound knowledgable. I've made a few changes and uploaded the design for you. I've changed the wheel to what I think is a rally steering wheel, but I'd appreciate confirmation. I've also added a grey border and drop shadow. This is what would be displayed around the sides of the image if the browser window is more than 800px wide. I agree that the logo isn't perfect; it's certainly too white at the moment. I'll change it later, I'm not on Windows at the moment. I've played with a rally car image at the bottom left, but haven't managed to get an effect I like yet. If I do, I'll post it for you guys to review. I think it might be an idea to keep that area clean though, since the top-left is where people traditionally would find a letterhead or logo, so it helps comprehension. The link colours I will play with, but I'm wary of making them too similiar; if you read evernet.co.uk, you'll see we put a high emphasis on usability and accessibility, and keeping link colours distinct fits in this area. Is there going to be any Flash interface on the header or the buttons, etc. within the website? If you want, I can quickly sketch up a design of the logo If so, what is the colour code of the red you use
