Richard Burns Rally, it was one of the few games where it was perfect from the start. Whilst Colin McRae has a long and illustrious history, the physics are nothing like I've experienced on RBR. WRC after 5 versions still haven't got it perfect. V-Rally has also had a long history, and V-Rally 3 would perhaps be the closest to RBR.

I never quite liked V-Rally, and WRC is decent but is still terribly flawed.

I dont know why I never didnt got on to Burns on PS2.. After has been on WRC car in co-drivers seat at the rally car shows and drived a B grouper I has found that Burns is quite an ok game but the cars controlling is closer to BDA Escort than powerful WRC car. The psysics looks ok but in PS2 version them was a little bit too light. I have heard that PC version is great and 10 times better so cant say.... but as Burns is a single game it isnt a serie. The all time best serie must be CMR. 1 and 2 was so great rally games of its times and I keep them really high ranked. 3,4 and 5 isnt then so good ones. Many didnt liked to 3rd because of Colin seasons but I liked, keep it better than ´´Colin McRae rally stage history repeat´´ 4 or arcadic 5th version. WRC is a serie what is quite ok. I have liked to 4th and 5th the most. OK 5th has only 3 stages per rally and a lot of joking but its great game still and in online its great. 1,2 was good rally games on start of PS2 rally era and 3rd is the most biggest let down for me. Has always liked to V-Rally really much. Actually it was the first rally game with real WRC car liveries and I really enjoyed to it. When 2nd came I was amazed and really remember how I played it all the time. 2nd one also had a lot of historical cars, all WRC cars and a lot of nice stages+stage editor! I keeped it the best rally game with Colin on PS1. When 3rd came didnt knowed what to expect, the retirement idea was nice and the career and liked for it too. The problem was that the car was quite light and after 1 season the rallyes got too easy. Still deffinately a good game. My Vote as a best series of rally games goes to V-Rally as with it I have many good memories and it has always offered something new. Also all games were great.I still has them all and playes them with the emulator on computer sometimes. Really like to V-Rally 1 Alps rally with Repsol Escort and to V-Rally 2´s a lot to play cases.

I have to say Richard Burns Rally. Colin McRae Rally is also a good title, but they never really committed to realism. They're always releasing the games months too early just to compete with WRC series to increase their profits.
It's sad that there's no RBR2, 'cos it could be such a fantastic game. Luckily there are developer tools so most of the new cars have been modelled by entusiasts.

Without a doubt its RBR for me. I always found the others one a bit too arcady as if it has been targeted at people who don't follow the WRC much, or have only just heard about the motorsport, which is fine I guess. Whereas RBR seems much more in depth and realistic. Since I got it about a year or two ago I have never bought another rally game since.
