The spectator restrictions have me worried. After being able to do whatever I liked in Italy, it's going to be a shock if I'm locked into a spectator pen with thousands of people. Might have to do some scouting and find some road-closures to rock up at. It will be a shock for most spectators I think. Rally Australia probably has the most strict spectator control of all the world championship events. I understand Wales Rally GB is quite strict, but you still occasionally see a few spectators on the sides of the road away from the speccy pens. Another option if you're up there early enough, is to do a recce of some of the stages to scout for private property. If you ask the land owners very nicely, they may let you spectate on their property, providing of course that you are in a safe spot. Road closures are a possibility, but again a recce would be good idea. Otherwise the marshalls might stick you 70m up the road away from the stage, and all you'll see is an epic dust cloud. Google Street View would be a very useful tool. As for me, will the Roo be going to his home event? Answer unfortunately is no. The rally is smack in the middle of football finals, and missing a game right at the business end of the season would have a detrimental effect on my chances of officiating in the grand final. Instead, thinking of going over the ditch for Rally NZ next year.

What's this event you speak of? Wales Rally GB? Rally of Great Britain these days! The marshalls can't really stop you walking up the stage before the stage is live, so it's what quite a few fans do!
