Yep, had quite a rant about this on another forum, here's a copy of it... Lifted from another forum I post on. The bits in quotation marks, i.e. with " " marks around them, are quotes from a press release from the hippies involved, and the rest is my writing. (And proof that I've been practising at the whole journalism thing, note that it reads like a student trying to be a journalist's writing! ;D ;D ;D Bloody rubbish, isn't it? Much of what I could rant here has already been ranted, but I'll rant a little anyway...
First of all, what is the "designed to give comfort to boy racers, ‘petrolheads’ and those from the ‘get out of my way’ school of driving." bit all about?! Now, there's nothing that annoys me more than being cut up and almost run off the road by drugged up neds, eejit yuppies in company cars, and the like, but why are we talking about fast drivers as if they're the enemy in a war. Surely it's only in wartime that you can be accused of "giving aid and comfort to the enemy", and yet here a program that happens to show some fast cars is apparently committing a heinous crime?
This bit's also a killer...
“This is not about censorship or having a poor sense of humour, it’s about what is in the public interest. You can provide entertainment without it being mindless and irresponsible. If we must have Jeremy Clarkson on the television, let’s give him something useful to do, such as trying out public transport or road-testing new bicycles. Perhaps he would like to drive a bus; he’d find it just as much fun as a Ferrari.”<br> Sure thing, I'll gladly spend an hour on a Sunday night watching Jeremy Clarkson taking a train to Edinburgh, with such thrilling highlights as him trying to find a seat, and being asked for money by neds. Or a thrilling article where The Stig goes to the shops on a pair of recycled roller skates! What a thrilling evening!
And it is so about censorship and a lack of sense of humour you bloody hippies! Just because you're into meusli and rescuing tiny frogs doesn't mean we have to watch what you lot want on the telly! And you don't have a sense of bloody humour!

I like your post rev9.
Very professional, and I agree. Why should it be taken off the telly because some people don't like it?
I don't particularly like 'Location, Location'. But you dont hear me trying to get it banned. I just change the channel!

I like your point of view, Curt. It would be unfair if folks took off a show people liked. And if they don't like it, they should change the channel or turn off the tv until the show goes off. There are a bunch of shows I don't on tv, so I change the channel ( or play video games ;D).
Then too, folks might think the show is a bad influence on kids. They should understand that most of the show is comedy and that most of the kids in your country are not that stupid to do those stunts!

Darn, well your not, right? They should let the folks who won't act cRaZy watch the show, if that will fix anything.

Wow I could get sooooo mad over this. I love Top Gear and think that JC is the best presenter for the job. There have been some interesting points made over this, my view is that they should leave well alone. The point was made in the news articles that a program should be made for women called Third Gear showing the highlights of a bus/train/bicycle journey empahsising the safe and environmentally friendly aspects of modern day transport. I think they should spend their efforts making this program for their intented market (i.e. women motorists, who apparently want to watch this ??) and leave the popular and succsessful motoring program alone. There is no reason why one motoring program has to be axed before another is created. I say to them give it a go, that'll be the quickest way fot them to learn from their mistakes. Hopefully the budget for this new program will be privately funded by themselves !!

Thanks for the compliment Curt! ;D ;D I saw the bit about it being unpopular with women too. Now hold on, there are lots of programs on the TV aimed specifically at women, involving various things that interest women but not most men, yet I'm yet to hear anyone trying to get programs about clothes and makeup and stuff banned. Funny how some people think sexism only works one way isn't it, that if a program doesn't interest some women it's sexist and needs banned, but if a program doesn't interest some men it's acceptable? Besides that I know plenty of girls who watch Top Gear and don't think it's sexist or boring! Besides that people are always blaming kids behaviour on things. If they get into a fight parents say they must have saw a Terminator movie on TV. If they're a bit unhappy or depressed, their teachers say they must be listening to Nirvana, never mind that they might actually have something on their minds. I read in the news a while back that a 16 year old here in Scotland murdered a classmate and mutilated her body, and rather than admitting that he was psychologically disturbed and needed to be put in an asylum for a long time, they said that it happened because he was a Marilyn Manson fan, and that the records had told him to do it. Now, I've listened to a few Manson songs, and I've never once had the urge to kill my friends.

I don't know why folks are like that. Its not always the tv that get kids into trouble. Its the kids THEMSELVES making the trouble. Its THEIR actions that cause chaos! THEY decide to do what is wrong to show off and what-not! So, if its the kids they're worried about, the parents should not let them watch shows that will make bad things happen! And the kids should be more responsible! End of story.
