I just thought I would update you all on how the database migration is going on the website.
Since I lasted posted about it Ive purchased a new database, built all the tables and imported all the data from the old database. Ive already got a few of the pages working with the new database and its a lot faster. If you remember the Boards page would take minutes to load. Thats now only a few seconds. Smaller pages like the articles load instantly.
The whole process is still going to take some time considering how large the site is, but so far I'm only running into a few problems regarding dates and WHERE clauses.
I'm hoping to have the site back online fully before WRC Finland so until then keep your eye on this space.

There is one other slight problem. After importing the data I realised Ive used a backup database and not the most recent. The database was a week or 2 out of date so some of the posts/images won't be there. However a huge majority of the old data is still there and I'm going to add as many of the missing images.
I also have about 100 exclusive images to upload from 2 separate photographers.

I use both Oracle and Sybase at work.
I hate them both.
A good DBA is worth their weight in gold!
thanks for the work.

How much is 55kg of gold worth now days? Might weigh up the option of switching from switching from software to DBA. Good to hear Curt. Let me know if I can help you automate any of it. EDIT: hmmm, 40mil USD... that's it, DBA here I come!

Excellant news - once the site is back up I'll have something to do and I'll be able to write some articles!
And Vivski - share the wealth with us all ay?
