Source: ps2.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=8262Sony has announced the fifth game in the superb WRC series. With games like this on the way, the current generation has a lot of life left in it. The game is set for release in September and features some novel new features. One of these is unpredictability where events such as a forest fire, falling rocks, floods or crashed cars ahead make for extra dangers on rally stages. We're promised an improved co-driver too. Real-life co-driver- Hear the Fear! The vastly improved co-driver signals now give players the feeling of a real human being guiding them through the challenging stages of every rally. Believable and convincing, the co-driver now reacts dynamically to the action, giving detailed, impassioned help and guidance through pace notes drawn up by a real rally champion. The co-driver is sensitive to the racing conditions: his voice changes according to the road surface and breakneck speed, conveying real emotions in both victory and defeat. On the visual side we can look forward to new deformable environments means you can crash into a wall and watch it collapse. And there's a new particle system that generates dense smoke, fire and deep water - all of which affects visibility and the handling of the rally car Source: Sony

It sounds quite promising. I like the way you can see other cars that have crashed on the stage:

as their are crashed cars do we get the driver/codriver with an ok board or something like that
also if you can pass slower cars does that work the other way round can cars pass us if we go slow

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I'm not going to get sucked in again. When they say "fully customisable pacenotes" and "realistic handling" then I will get interested. I've seen a preview for the game and it looks cheesy. The graphics look pretty nice, but this is a video game and the PS2 can only handle so much. The forest fires look stupid... how often do you see forest fires in rallies? The stage would be cancelled if there was a fire. You drive past a car on its roof and the driver and co-driver are having a punch-on... All this takes processing power. It means there's less power for sound, graphics and speed. I've been excited about these games before and they haven't delivered. This is what I need in a rally game... - sense of speed, - fully customisable notes (make your own & use your own system), - realism in the way the notes are spoken (emphasis on tricky corners), - realistic handling and jumps, - detailed car setup, - high detail graphics so you can see the road, - realistic car sound, - good force feedback, - good damage model. They need to focus on the basics. The sheer fact that they have put in forest fires indicates to me that it's going to be more of the same arcadey BS. I like the sound of the co-driver improvements, but actions speak louder than words. They have bullnutsted us before, they're probably doing it again. But I will be intersted to see if they can make the co-driver work... it's the main thing lacking in rally games... a realistic co-driver. EDIT: Good co-drivers don't change their voice when the road goes fast. If a driver senses fear in the co-driver, they will get distracted, crash and fire the co-driver. I know a few drivers who have asked their co-drivers to always keep both hands on the notebook infront of them, because if they start holding the seat, it distracts them. It's like when you're driving along a forest road and your Mum starts holding the seatbelt, it's distracting! The last thing I want is a nervous wreck sitting next to me... I hope they do it well so it's not distracting... I want a good co-driver. A realistic co-driver will realise when you're driving too sideways, running wide and pushing too hard... and they will tell you to take it easy. Also, if you're driving too tentatively, they'll tell you to pull your finger out... at which point you tell them to "F*** Off!".

I took it for short drive through a stage in Monte Carlo and Sweden and it's good, the feeling on tarmac and snow is really improved now. ;D Nice cars added! More later... www.wildswede.se

How did the overall steering feel? Is it like RBR or is it still the same as before?

How did the overall steering feel? Is it like RBR or is it still the same as before? The feeling of the car is much better now. It's easier to slide into a corner now and throttle out of it. I can't compare RBR and WRC since I use a steering wheel for RBR and the gamepad for WRC. But I would say it's better now than before...

it really does look good, but gameplay matters, not graphics

That's not true: You can hit spectators, but then you will be penalised by being set back on the road!
The peugeot 205 t16 and renault 5 maxi are in the game, and some other historics.
Spectators DO NOT help you back on the road!
I think the steering is harder than in WRC 4
Still: this game is a must have! ;D
